Step into Insights ("the app," "we," "us") is an iOS app that turns your Apple Health activity into step, workout, and wellness insights. It is an independent app developed by Nithin Putchakayala.
With your permission, the app reads the following from Apple Health: steps, distance, active and resting energy, flights climbed, workouts and workout routes, heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, heart rate recovery, walking and running speed, sleep, stand and exercise minutes, time in daylight, body mass, date of birth, and biological sex.
The app also stores your preferences (daily goal, units, display name, tone and notification settings), the things you create in it (saved insight stories, Walk Mode walks and recaps, your side-quest, challenge and badge progress, and, if you take them, goal-day snap photos, which stay in the app's private storage and leave your device only if you share one) and, if you choose to add one, a birthday. The birthday sets how high your level can climb and powers a birthday moment. It stays on your device and is never sent anywhere, analytics included. To share progress with its widgets on the same device, the app saves a small snapshot of today's activity, the last seven days of step totals, and your level and journey standing. You can hide step counts from widgets in the app's Settings.
Every score and number in the app (including Readiness, Recovery, Strain, Training Load, walking-calorie estimates and the daily brief) is a metric calculated from the data Apple Health has for you. These are estimates for general fitness and wellness interest only. They are not medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment, and they do not replace a doctor. If you have a health concern, or before you change how you exercise, talk to a qualified healthcare professional.
Walk Mode asks for Motion & Fitness access the first time you start a walk, to show a live step count on your iPhone. That live count is not stored anywhere but on your device; the walk's saved total still comes from Apple Health. The optional goal-day snap asks for camera access the first time you take one. Snap photos are saved only in the app's private storage (never your photo library) and leave your device only if you share one. The app does not use your location.
To understand which features are used, the app can send anonymous, privacy-preserving usage events via TelemetryDeck. This is strictly opt-in: nothing is sent unless you explicitly turn analytics on.
The only information that ever reaches a server run by someone other than Apple is that optional analytics, and it contains event names and fixed option values only: for example which screen was opened or which setting was switched. It never contains Health values, names, birthdays, photos or free text.
If you enable Watch surfaces, the app sends a display snapshot directly to your paired Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. Workout-route maps use Apple's system mapping services to render map content. Step into Insights does not upload HealthKit values to its own server or to TelemetryDeck.
Optional premium features are sold as in-app purchases and subscriptions handled entirely by Apple's App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Purchase validation is performed on-device through Apple's StoreKit.
The same facts are declared to Apple in the app's App Store privacy label and
in its privacy manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy), and they match this page:
If you enable them, reminders and celebration notifications are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server and send nothing to you remotely.
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the date above.
